FED:Rail network is mere 'trainspotting'

CANBERRA, Aug 6 AAP - Labor's promise to investigate high-speed rail from Brisbane
to Melbourne has been labelled a "trainspotting exercise" by Nationals Senate leader Barnaby
Joyce.

Labor on Thursday announced a a $20 million feasibility study into a network linking
Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne, and also backed a $4.7 billion plan to build
an inland rail link.

But Senator Joyce said it wasn't serious.

"They talk about a high-speed train between Brisbane and Melbourne," he told ABC Radio.

"When you get to the details, it's a ... $20 million study between Newcastle and Sydney.

"What we end up (with) is another study, another trainspotting exercise this time."
