Vic: Hopes rain will ease fire threat at Cann River

Firefighters hope a band of rain crossing Victoria will deliver a timely Christmas
gift as they battle bushfires in the state's far east.

About six fires were burning in East Gippsland yesterday .. although most were within
containment lines.

Rain which swept through Melbourne last night is expected in Victoria's far east by this morning.

Meanwhile campers evacuated at Wingan Inlet in the Croajingolong National Park yesterday
while firefighters battled to contain a 76-hectare blaze .. have been allowed to return.
