Dealers convince GM to restore $100 F&I spiff.(finance and insurance fee, part of GM's new incentive program)(Brief Article)

Dealers squawked hard when General Motors removed a $100 finance and insurance fee that had been part of GM's new incentive program - so hard that GM restored the fee without raising rates to consumers.

GM started its ``Overdrive'' incentive program Jan. 3, featuring $2,002 customer cash for most divisions. As an alternative to the rebate, GM also offered loans at 5.9 percent. But the automaker took away a $100 flat fee dealers had been earning on such cut-rate deals.

Dealers did a lot of ``screaming and hollering,'' said Tommy Brasher, chairman of the Chevrolet dealer council and owner of Brasher Motor Co. of Weimar Inc. in Weimar, Texas.
